How do I apply to a regulatory body?

If your profession has a regulatory body, it can take many months to complete the application process. You may be required to take professional and language examinations, provide a review of your qualifications, and complete supervised work experience for a set amount of time.

Tip:

  • It helps to be organized! Check with the regulatory body to make sure you collect the correct documents before applying.

Mutual Recognition

Some certifications from other countries are recognized in Canada through a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). If the certification for your occupation is recognized in Canada, this is the easiest way to get certified.

  • For Example: Engineers registered in Australia, Hong Kong and Ireland can apply to be engineers in Canada under a streamlined process because of a Mutual Recognition Agreement.
