Board Meeting August 2017

ITEM FOR DECISION

1. Pledge of Support and Guiding Principles of Youth Matters Community Accountability

The Chief Librarian presented a report to the Board that sought Board endorsement of Youth Matters Community Accountability. The Chief Librarian noted that she would normally not bring a statement forward for Board endorsement without significant review by staff, but that this statement is a statement of principles that were already aligned with VPL values and commitments. She also noted that City Council, the Park Board, and Vancouver Police Department had all endorsed the statement. This request is coming forward like this because VPL staff were approached regarding VPL endorsement just days ago and the signing ceremony occurs before the next Board meeting. After assurances that staff see little risk to endorsing this statement without the usual review, and noting the alignment with VPL's existing commitments, the following motion was raised.

Moved by Suki Grewal and seconded by Gordon Ross

That the Board endorse the Youth Matters "Pledge of Support and Guiding Principles of Youth Matters Community Accountability."
