VPL’s Chief Librarian and CEO Christina de Castell Departing
Christina de Castell, VPL’s Chief Librarian and CEO is departing from VPL to pursue her research and policy interests, with her last day on January 9, 2025.
Under her leadership, VPL has been recognized for its many contributions to Vancouver: addressing affordability by eliminating late fees; advancing Reconciliation; expanding digital access to collections and services; opening early literacy spaces for children, and improving accessibility across all locations.
She has said “It has been an honour to serve in this role for the past nearly seven years, and to have had the opportunity every day to improve the lives of so many people in Vancouver through leading VPL and our incredible staff. We have an extraordinary privilege to live in a city that cares so much about its community members, and is committed to constantly evolving to meet changing needs.”
Vancouver Public Library’s Board and staff thank Christina for her dedication and vision in shaping welcoming library services for everyone who has walked through our doors and visited us online.
