Kay Cahill
Director, Information Technology & Collections
Kay joined Vancouver Public Library in 2005 as an auxiliary librarian following a ten year career in public libraries in the UK. As Director, IT & Collections she has oversight of service and strategy for the library’s information technology infrastructure, websites and online services, and physical and digital collections.
Previously Kay worked as the Manager of Digital Services, where she was responsible for the implementation of VPL’s digital repository, development of digital collections, and the 2017 redesign of www.vpl.ca. From 2016 to 2018 she also served as the project manager for the Central Library expansion. She became Director, IT & Collections in 2018.
Kay is Co-Chair of the Canadian Urban Libraries Council task force on digital content and licensing, participates on the Centre for Free Expression working group on intellectual freedom, and is a member of the editorial board of The Reference Librarian. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Avalanche Canada in a personal capacity.
Kay graduated from the information and library studies program at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 2004, and holds a certificate in Public Library Leadership from the University of Toronto.
