Library Square Look-Back Recognition
Objective
To address an historical gap in VPL’s Library Square Capital Campaign (ca 1990-1995) donor recognition process by applying a term to the recognition offered for gifts that resulted in naming recognition.
Scope
This policy applies to all VPL and VPLF staff responsible for acknowledging donors to the original Library Square Capital Campaign.
Approved by the Library Board: November 26, 2014
Revised: July 26, 2017
Policy Statements
- Signage within the Central Library, including the glass wall separating the library service area from the atrium, recognizing contributions from an individual, a family, or a personal estate will remain for a fifty year period beginning May 1995.
- Signage within the Central Library, including the glass wall separating the library service area from the atrium, recognizing a corporate or community entity will remain for a fifty year period beginning May 1995 if the entity still exists, or at the request of the entity’s successor organisation.
- Recognition within Central Library may be relocated as required.
Process Statements
VPLF staff attempted to contact all recognized donors (or designated alternate contact) to the Library Square Capital campaign between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. For donors who did not respond to a first attempt, second attempts were made. For those who did not respond to the second attempt, third attempts were made.
- If the donor or designated alternate contact was reached, VPLF offered equivalent or comparable recognition within Library Square. Donors were offered the options to accept, decline, or explore enhanced naming opportunities in recognition of an additional gift.
- If no donor contact was achieved, individual/family/estate donors will receive equivalent/comparable recognition within Library Square, provided that their pledge was paid in full. Partially paid pledges will be recognized with signage on a cumulative donor wall. No alternate/additional recognition will be offered to Library Square donors whose pledges have not been paid as of January 1, 2017.
- Recognition of corporate or community entities that no longer exist will be moved to the Library Square Capital Campaign donor wall if no successor organisation can be reached.
