Black History Month Celebration

Celebrate Black History Month at the library exploring stories, books, music and songs. Join Library staff along with a roster of special guests. Best suited for an audience of young children ages 3-6 along with their parents and caregivers.

10:15 am Cultural Storytellers Sioban Barker and Alisha Lettman present tales for young children.
11:15 am Cultural Drummer and Musician Maurice Earle takes the stage along with drums for kids to try.
About the Presenters
Sioban Barker
Siobhan is a published, nationally recognized, and multiple award winning bilingual performer honouring ancestral teachings of the Griot. Having worked in schools, festivals, and special events, they are celebrated as a mesmerizing storyteller that captivates audiences of any age with a special blend of Black-gal magic that transcends expectations.
Alisha Lettman (she\they)
Alisha is a community-engaged artist, herbalist, and vocalist. With a mother from Sindh and a father from Jamaica, she comes both from neem and calabash. Her work seeks to dismantle systems of oppression on an embodied level while stewarding systems of liberation and pathways for healing.
As an artist, she has led culturally responsive arts and land-based learning projects for youth, seniors and adults of all walks of life. Her projects strive to nurture anti-oppressive communities towards belonging by creativity, enacting a relationship of reciprocity with the land.
