B.C.’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) education system is being modernized with new curriculum. During the 2015/16 school year, a redesigned curriculum draft in Kindergarten to Grade 9 was introduced.

The purpose of the British Columbia school system is to enable the approximately 553,000 public school students, 81,000 independent school students, and over 2,200 home-schooled children enrolled each school year to develop their individual potential and to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to contribute to a healthy society and a prosperous and sustainable economy.

Journal articles, reports, conference papers and other materials become indexed in ERIC through a formal review process of the journals and other content sources. Materials from approved sources under agreement are selected and indexed, and new records are added to the collection.

The assessment is developed by B.C. educators to measure learning skills linked to the provincial curriculum and performance standards. Results help the province, school districts and schools keep track of how well our education system is doing and identify learning areas that may need improvement.

The Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB), part of the Ministry of Education, was created to support the implementation of the Teachers Act, which came into force on January 9, 2012. The TRB provides operational support to the regulatory structure for the teaching profession in B.C.
