Programs for Kids

  • We welcome groups from schools, child care centres, and other children’s programs in Vancouver to visit our libraries.

  • Be among the first kids ever to read new books! With Kids Read it First, you get to read and review Advance Reading Copies (ARCs) of books even before they hit the book store shelves.

  • Children in Grades 2 - 4 are matched with a Big Buddy teen mentor to practice reading aloud and participate in activities such as storytelling and games that make literacy fun.

  • Children in Grades 2 - 4 are matched with a "big buddy" teen mentor for fun and informal STEAM learning.

  • Honour Pink Shirt day with award-winning author Robin Stevenson. Best suited for School Groups Grades 4 - 9, but everyone is welcome.

  • VPL is collecting and delivering Caring Cards for isolated residents.

  • These early language and literacy workshops provide free professional development for early childhood educators (ECE), childcare providers, and adults working with young children in the community.

  • Kids in Grades K – 7 can drop by participating branches anytime to write and illustrate their own book and we’ll make it available for other kids to read in the library!

  • Our writing and book clubs meet in person at a branch, or virtually over Zoom.

  • Congratulations to the 2024 Page by Page winners and honourable mentions!
