Parenting and Child Care

Parent Support Services Society offers a Support Line for Kinship Caregivers, Facilitation Training and Parenting Workshops. We operate Support Circles, across BC, for those in a parenting role.
Assists families of children who require additional support to access inclusive child care programs. Working with daycares, preschools, family daycares and out of school care programs, we provide consultation services and extra staffing assistance to ensure inclusive practices for children who have a demonstrated need for extra support. From birth to age 19.
Provides child care providers and families with a variety of support which could include: Referrals to child care providers; Assist parents with Child Care Subsidy application - Child Care Subsidy; Training and workshops; Resource/Toy Lending Library Services; Telephone, office and outreach support and consultations

POPs provide perinatal and early parenting support to women and their families who experience health or lifestyle challenges during pregnancy, birth and the transition to parenting.

Adoption, Fostering, and Guardianship

Support and Information on becoming a foster parent
AFABC supports the adoption community at all ages and stages through education, counselling, family events, and advocacy.

Tells you how and where you can legally adopt a child. Lists all the ways one can adopt.
Access Adopt Records here. Under the Adoption Act in B.C., birth parents and adults who were adopted as children can get identifying information about each other.

Health and Wellness

Parents and youth can access community mental health assessments, supports and services in BC.
DDP offers 50 community-based programs to support families with a developmentally disabled member. For more help call the Family Support Program at 604-273-9778.

Support and advice for grandparents or other relatives who are raising a family member’s child.
Weekly group meetings connect single moms in the community for peer support, resources and information.

Legal and Financial

Child support table look-up will help you find the base amount of child support. Read the Step-by-Step Guide and the Table Look-up. The Guide offers instructions and worksheets that will help explain how to calculate child support amounts.
Once you have a child, you are entitled to federal benefits.
Will provide free counseling services for families who need help with: issues of guardianship, parental responsibilities, parenting time and contact, child support and spousal support.
