Victim Services

Start learning about some of the services and programs that are available to victims of crime in British Columbia by consulting the BC Government's page on If You Are a Victim of Crime. Below are some of the resources that are available in Vancouver and surrounding areas.

Sexual Assault Resources

An emergency service that is available 24/7. Call 604-875-2424 and ask for the Sexual Assault Service, or visit in person at the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) Emergency Department.
Offers a variety of trauma-informed feminist support to survivors of sexualized violence. Call their 24/7 crisis line at 604-255-6344 or toll-free at 1-877-392-7583 for immediate assistance.
Provides therapeutic services for males who have been sexually abused at some time in their lives. Call 604-682-6482 for help.
A rape crisis centre and transition house for women who have experienced male violence. They also operate a 24hr crisis line at 604-872-8212.

Domestic Abuse Resources

Intervention program for patients arriving at the emergency department who may have been involved in domestic violence, elder abuse, or child abuse.
Supports women and children affected by violence by offering safe and supportive housing and by delivering education and advocacy aimed at ending all forms of gendered violence.
Provides education, advocacy, and support services to assist women experiencing gender-based domestic violence. Call their crisis 24/7 crisis line at 604-687-1867 or toll-free at 1-855-687-1868.
Housing assistance for women fleeing or at risk of violence. Includes lists of transition houses, safe homes, and second-stage housing as well as other resources.
Resources for women leaving abusive situations and looking to access support, employment program for survivors of domestic abuse, and legal resources.

Elder Abuse Resources

Call 604-437-1940 (Toll Free: 1-866-437-1940) to report elder abuse or to speak with someone about suspected instances of abuse or neglect. Available everyday from 8am to 8pm.
Call 604-872-1234 to speak with someone about issues you are experiencing. Available 24/7.
Intervention program for patients arriving at the emergency department who may have been involved in domestic violence, elder abuse, or child abuse.

Hate Crime Resources

Information about what constitutes a hate crime in BC and how to report one that is in progress or that has already occurred. Call 1-855-462-5733 to speak with someone.
An online community tool for reporting and tracking instances of anti-Asian racism in Canada.

Newcomer Resources

Support for refugee mental health through counselling, documentation, education, and referrals. Call 1-866-393-3133, Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 5pm, for the BC Provincial Toll-Free Refugee Mental Health Line.
Supports immigrant, migrant, and trafficked women involved in sex work. Call 604-719-6343 for help.

Resources for Friends and Family

Provides support to friends and family who have lost a loved one as a result of homicide. Call 604-738-9950 for help.

Advocacy Organizations

Services are available to help you deal with the emotional, physical and financial effects of a crime. Government and non-profit organizations offer many free services and programs across British Columbia.
Coordinates and supports the work of victim-serving and other anti-violence programs in British Columbia through the provision of issue-based consultation and analysis, resource development, training, research, and education.
