Legal Services

There are many excellent organizations in Vancouver and surrounding areas that can help to answer your legal questions, some of which are even able to provide free or low-cost legal advice (including legal representation in some instances) to low-income residents. 604-822-5791 (English) or 604-684-1628 (Chinese) Note that law students are unable to provide legal advice over the phone, but can set up appointments to meet with eligible clients in person to offer free legal advice and representation. Clinics are located throughout Metro Vancouver. LSLAP cannot assist with family law issues or personal injury, among other things.

604-687-3221 or 1-800-663-1919 Provides the contact details of appropriate lawyers for your particular circumstances. You may also receive a free 30 minute consultation with a lawyer if needed, schedule-permitting.
Offers a range of free services that may help you. Gives priority to people with low incomes, but many services are available to all residents of British Columbia.
Get help with BCSC, BCCA, BCHRT court forms. These clinics are run by volunteer paralegals with the supervision of duty counsel (a lawyer). The clinic can help with: Supreme Court of BC civil court pleadings, civil court forms relating to employment, foreclosures and residential tenancy matters, Supreme Court of BC family court forms, Court of Appeal family law pleadings and organizing appeal books, and BC Human Rights Tribunal forms.
604-660-2084 290-800 Hornby Street (in the Vancouver Law Courts building) Provides information in person and on their website on family law issues (divorce and separation, custody and access, child or spousal support) and civil law issues (income assistance, rental and owned housing, employment, debt or finance, immigration and refugee, human rights, consumer issues and wills and estates). The centre does not provide information on criminal issues or small claims court forms and filings.

604-684-7334 101-148 Alexander Street Provides free legal services to the Indigenous community in the Downtown Eastside, including free legal representation for those who qualify for legal assistance and have a legal issue that falls under the jurisdiction of the British Columbia provincial courts. Student clinicians are also available to assist clients from Monday-Wednesday each week.
604-331-1407 x.114 For low-income women (including self-identified/transwomen) in the Downtown Eastside. Legal Advocacy Program for Women in the DTES: Information, advice & referrals in many areas of law. Atira Community Legal Clinic also hosts a monthly drop-in session on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 1pm – 3pm. To be considered for this drop-in session, please arrive by 1pm.

Legal Information Resources

800 Smithe Street. (in the Vancouver Law Courts building). 604-660-2841 For proficient legal researchers and the general public. Provides video tutorials on BC court rules and legislation, finding precedents, and legal research help.
Access resources and information related to family and civil law issues, including offer one-on-one help from staff. The centres do not deal with criminal issues, small claims court forms and filings, and some other specific legal solutions.
Helps you develop an effective Step-by-Step Legal Research Process, learn when and how to resources, and understand statutory research and electronic searching.
